Goalkeeper denies Clarets at Wrexham

Chris Lynch - hit the post with a free kick
The Burnley youngsters proved more than ready for the challenge of the physical Wrexham team. As we searched for the first goal Wrexham committed a foul 25yds from goal. With the crowd waiting for Chris Anderson or Alex-Ray Harvey up stepped captain Chris Lynch to unleash a thunderbolt which struck the inside of the post with the keeper beaten.

Within minutes a similar situation and again Lynch stepped forward only to be denied by a world class save from the Wrexham keeper. Further efforts from Wes Fletcher and Harvey failed to break the deadlock and we reached half-time with a 0-0 scoreline.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Burnley pushing forward and Wrexham trying to hit us on the break. The game was decided by a stroke of ill-fortune. Dan McDonald fed Dan Brown who stumbled on the difficult surface allowing the winger to stride clear and cross for a simple tap in.

Burnley were dominant as they searched for an equaliser but found the Wrexham keeper unbeatable. Anderson fed Fletcher who strode through only for the keeper to get his fingertips to the ball and onto the post.

Fletcher then found Michael King on the right, he cut inside his man and sent a shot arrowing to the top corner only for the keeper to make another magnificent save.

A disallowed Chris Lynch goal and a late penalty claim were not enough and we lost a game we deserved to win.
