Gilchrist carries on where he left off

Gilchrist has certainly impressed the manager. He won himself a trip to Ireland with the first team squad and only a slight knock kept him out of the action at Turner's Cross against Cork City.

But on a day when another of the club's goalscorers was very much back on song it was Gilchrist who helped himself to three goals as Padiham struggled to deal with the young Clarets this morning.

Hat trick for Jason Gilchrist

He scored two in the first half and completed his hat trick in the second half, and it might have been more but for home goalkeeper Sean Davis who had an outstanding game for the newly promoted Evo-Stik League club.

Warrington born striker Gilchrist will, I am sure, point to fellow striker Jamie Frost after this game. Frost was in top form and was a certain challenger for the man of the match award. it was fitting that he scored the last of the goals.

Overall it was an excellent performance. One of the trialists, Kyle Brownhill from Stockport, had a decent enough game and on the right of midfield there was a good show from Andrew Musungu, a 19-year-old who was released by Stoke at the end of last season.

Overall it was an enjoyable game with the only disappointment a crowd of just 164, no surprise given that Burnley Football Club didn't bother to give the game any publicity whatsoever.

The teams were;

Burnley: Nick Liversedge, Cameron Dummigan, Jack Errington, Tom Anderson, Kyle Brownhill, Andrew Musungu, Luke Daly (Archie Love 74), Steven Hewitt, Christian Hill (Ntumba Massanka 67), Jason Gilchrist, Jamie Frost. Sub not used: Conor Mitchell.
