Gawthorpe starts its season with a win

Alex Taylor - involved in all three goals
It was a good performance from the youngsters who probably should have won even more convincingly than the scoreline suggests.

The first home game of the season was postponed and this one was played in less than perfect conditions with a howling gale throughout and a torrential downpour during the first half when the Clarets were unable to turn their domination into goals.

In fact Carlisle could have scored twice themselves when they broke through in one-on-one situations but on both occasions keeper Michael Hale won the battle and saved both of them, one of the saves in particular receiving warm praise from the touchline.

We did finally get ourselves in front when the impressive Joe Booth scored from the spot after Alex Taylor was pushed by the Carlisle keeper.

Early in the second half good build up play and passing saw Taylor feed Kyle Lafferty and he rounded the keeper to slot it in the net to give the Clarets a 2-0 lead.

We were now passing it around very well and Carlisle did not pose any real threat and it came as no surprise when the third went in. Tom Ince, who looked really lively when he came on, raced down the left and delivered a good cross for Taylor to net his third of the season.

It was a good performance all round and it helped with the players having only the one game this week.

The team was: Michael Hale, Rob Henry, Neal Trotman, Martin Reilly, Chris McCann, Marc Pugh, Darrell Avery, Joe Booth, Adam Jones (Tom Ince), Kyle Lafferty (Cayne Hanley), Alex Taylor.
