Gap closes as Clarets drop first points

That gave the chasing pack a chance to catch up somewhat and second place Wrexham took full advantage with a 3-2 win at Shrewsbury. The Blue Square Premiership club's youth team are having a really good season. They've lost just one game and this win has now taken them within three points of us.

Thankfully the other teams didn't take the same advantage. Carlisle, the other side with just the one defeat (and that coming against us) played Oldham and they fought out a 0-0 draw and this enabled Tranmere to sneak in between them after they beat Port Vale 5-0.

Blackpool's point against us has given them a bit of breathing space over the bottom clubs. They are now three points clear of both Chester and Morecambe whilst Accrington remain at the bottom without a point. Chester and Morecambe lost to Macclesfield and Preston and both conceded four goals whilst Stanley were another to lose 5-0, going down at home to Bury.

Wigan were beaten again and after looking the most likely challenges to us at the top just a few weeks ago they now find themselves in the bottom half of the division. Rochdale though are very much moving in the opposite direction and their latest win has taken them to eighth.

Rochdale are our next opponents this coming Saturday, the second in our run of four consecutive away games.
