From Manchester United to Wrexham

The rules a few years ago allowed teams relegated from the Premier League to keep their reserve teams in the Barclays Premier Reserve League, but that was changed and it is now open only to those clubs whose first teams are playing in the Premier League.

That means we are back in the old Central League next season, or the totesport.com League to give it its correct title, and that means we will face only Preston North End from the Championship.

The league is such that there are only nine teams in the West Division, giving Ash Hoskin's team only sixteen league games all season, although there is a cup competition that we haven't bothered with in the last decade or so.

Our West Division is the bigger of the three with only eight clubs in each of the other two.

The fixtures haven't as yet been released but when they do we will find ourselves playing games mainly against League One and League Two sides plus Blue Square Bet Premier club Wrexham.

The full structure of the totesport.com League is as follows:

West Division

Accrington Stanley, Burnley, Bury, Morecambe, Macclesfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Preston North End, Tranmere Rovers, Wrexham

Central Division

Barnsley, Bradford City, Derby County, Port Vale, Rotherham United, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Shrewsbury Town

East Division

Grimsby Town, Hartlepool United, Hull City, Gateshead, Leeds United, Lincoln City, Middlesbrough, Scunthorpe United
