Fourth win for reserves

Ryan Townsend - scored the only goal of the game
It was a more comfortable win than the scoreline suggests with the home side hardly troubling a strong looking Burnley side throughout the game.

The result does not see us climb from the bottom of the league but does bring us level with Barnsley although they do have games in hand.

The Wednesday keeper had already made good saves from Luke Chadwick, trialist Alexander Davis and Paul Scott before we went in front on 18 minutes with a goal from Ryan Townsend.

A last ditch block prevented Alex Taylor from giving us the lead but Townsend got above the defence to head home from Marc Pugh’s resulting corner.

It all calmed down after that but we were the better of the two sides and Wednesday had offered little by the time we reached half time.

It was a similar pattern in the second half and again Poulter in the Wednesday goal was kept busy with little on offer at the other end although Nathan Abbey had to come out to gather the ball quickly in one late attack.

The win gives us a chance but it will still be a difficult task to avoid the drop.

The teams were,

Sheffield Weds: Poulter, Greenwood, Knaggs (Wray 77), Padgett, Carr, Wood, Wilson, McClaren (Nelson 45), Olsen, Shaw (Reet 77), Needham. Subs not used: McAllister, Foster.
