Four wins needed for title

Wrexham didn't play until Monday but they came from behind to beat Preston 2-1, and that's left them four points ahead of Carlisle (who have a game in hand) and nine points ahead of Burnley (and we have five games in hand).

The Welsh side have just one game to play and that's against bottom club Accrington Stanley. So if we assume they are going to win that it will leave Carlisle out of the running and us twelve points behind and with a far better goal difference meaning four wins will do it.

Our win against Port Vale was a third successive win, and it is five in all competitions with the two Lancashire FA Youth Cup ties. We've scored three goals in each of the wins and conceded just one in the cup win at Oldham.

Carlisle kept their, now slim, hopes alive on Saturday with a 3-1 home win against Stockport but Wrexham, who have had the good fortune to only have to play the other top teams once, have lost just one game all season.

Preston are now well clear of the rest of the pack in fourth place and they played on Saturday as well as the Monday game against Wrexham. They beat Wigan on the Saturday.

It proved to be a day for the underdogs with all of the bottom three recording wins. Bottom club Accrington beat Chester whilst Morecambe and Blackpool beat Tranmere and Macclesfield respectively. Elsewhere there were also wins for Oldham and Shrewsbury.

Saturday brings us our first opportunity to start pulling some points back. Neither of the top two play whilst we are in action at Gawthorpe again with a home game against Tranmere. Kick off is at 11:00 a.m.
