Jamie Frost scored our second goal in the 3-2 defeat |
Fourth place Bury were due to play Rochdale, who are second. That game fell victim to the overnight frost as did second place Walsall's game at Accrington, and with Preston's game at Port Vale also off it meant only two of the six teams above us played.
That was Wigan's home game against Tranmere and it ended 2-2. It stretched Wigan's lead at the top of the league to four points from both Rochdale and Walsall but the two chasing clubs both have two games in hand as do Bury who have one point less.
With a six point lead over the next club, we couldn't drop down the table. A win at Blackpool would have seen us move up two places to fifth but, having led 2-0, we were beaten for the second successive time in the league.
Brad Jackson and Jamie Frost had scored our goals with Blackpool pulling one back before half time. "I needed to change it at half time as it wasn't going as well as I wanted and I could see we needed some new input so I made two substitutions," said Blackpool youth coach Richie Kyle.
It worked for Kyle. The two players he brought on were Bright Samuel and Tyler Rufus. Samuel scored their equaliser on 78 minutes and it was Rufus who got the winner close to the final whistle.
The two other games played both involved teams closer to the bottom. Shrewsbury beat Wrexham but in the other game there was a point for bottom club Morecambe in a 3-3 draw at home to Carlisle.
We are at home to Port Vale this Saturday. It is one of three fixtures this week that are all re-arranged after previous postponements. Before that we travel to Wimbledon for the 3rd round tie in the FA Youth Cup.
