First goal for Trotman

It was another tough match for the youngsters who have been stripped of a number of their players because of first team calls. In fact only goalkeeper James Salisbury and striker Damien Hindle were third year scholars. They lined up alongside two second years, three first years and four schoolboys from the Centre of Excellence.

Again the young Clarets struggled in the first half to come to terms with both a physical side and a poor pitch but it took a mistake by Salisbury in goal to give Lincoln the lead.

We did get better in the second half but against the run of play fell further behind to a good effort that flew into the top corner.

But we don’t give up easily and with just a quarter of an hour left we fought our way back into the game and the scorer was no surprise – Damien Hindle , he just can’t stop scoring right now.

We piled forward then to try and grab a point and we did when Centre of Excellence central defender Neil Trotman, who with Ryan Townsend had gone up front, hit home with a left foot shot in injury time.

The youngsters are having it difficult just now with the number of players missing on first team duty but they are getting some good results and are putting in some good performances.

This match ends the season as far as away matches are concerned and next Saturday sees the last match when we play Oldham at Gawthorpe.

Saturday’s team was: James Salisbury, James Heywood, Paul Scott, Danny Pitham, Neil Trotman, Ryan Townsend, Marc Pugh, Robert Grimes, Tom Ince, Damien Hindle, Rhys Carpenter. Subs: Darryl Avery, Michael Hale, Hanley, Hargreaves.
