First defeat for youths

Coach Terry Pashley - happy with the performance despite the defeat
Clarets Mad checked on directions to the venue with Stockport County last week and were firstly asked by them where it was being played (it was there home game) and then that they didn’t know because they worked for Stockport County.

But further research led us to Timperley and a game that we were very unfortunate to lose even though we fell behind with only ten minutes gone after a right wing attack by the home side.

The young Clarets did everything but equalise during the first half with some good and attractive football that saw two efforts kicked off the line as well as us hitting the woodwork on three separate occasions.

There was little difference in the second half and it almost followed the same pattern with Stockport almost doubling their lead with an early striker but this time the woodwork came to our rescue.

After that it was more a less the Clarets on top with Stockport only occasionally troubling us on the break but again we just couldn’t find that breakthrough. Again efforts were cleared off the line and for a fourth time we were denied by the woodwork.

Despite the defeat coach Terry Pashley appeared happy with the performance and it is no surprise after some of them had played four games in a week although of course one of them, the Lancashire Senior Cup defeat against Rochdale, we are not allowed to mention.

The Burnley team was: Michael Hale, Rob Henry, Neal Trotman, Chris McCann, Martin Reilly, Marc Pugh, Darrell Avery, Joe Booth, Nicky Platt (Tom Ince), Kyle Lafferty (Cayne Hanley), Alex Taylor.

The youth team are still to play at home this season with the only scheduled home game called off at Gawthorpe after heavy rain. But the next four are at home starting with next week’s league game against Carlisle.
