Bolton and Manchester United got the league underway on Monday with United winning 3-1 at the Lancashire FA Headquarters, Bolton's home for reserve team football. United fielded a strong side including Wes Brown, but it was fellow defender Craig Cathcart who gave them the lead.

Michael O'Halloran brought Bolton level but Zoran Tosic restored United's lead just before half time and substitute Sam Hewson added a third in the second half to complete the scoring.

On Tuesday, Burnley fell to a 3-0 defeat against Everton and on the same night a Ryan Noble goal was enough to give last year's league champions Sunderland a 1-0 win at Wigan.

A first half David Ball penalty gave Manchester City a 1-0 win at Hull on Wednesday, the goal coming ten minutes before half time and that just left tonight's game remaining between Blackburn and Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village.

Twice Liverpool led through Nathan Eccleston goals. Aaron Doran equalised the first one just before half time but Eccleston's second looked to have secured all three points for the visitors. Then two late goals changed it all round. First Daniel Ayala put through his own goal before Josh Morris converted a stoppage time penalty to win the game for Blackburn.
