Blackburn moved above the Clarets on Monday night with a 4-2 win over Sunderland at Leigh Sports Village in a game that was played in difficult conditions caused by a heavy fog.

Josh Morris gave Blackburn the lead in the first half but Sunderland should have levelled when Roy O'Donovan had a clear chance but fired wide. By half time they were definitely rueing that miss after Maceo Rigters and Grant Hanley had put Blackburn 3-0 up.

It stayed at 3-0 until just past the hour when three more goals were scored in a three minute spell. Firstly Ryan Noble pulled one back for Sunderland but Junior Hoilett restored the three goal advantage within a minute. However, O'Donovan made up for his earlier miss just one minute after that when he converted a penalty.

The other two games were played last night with the Merseyside clubs both recording wins. The clash of the bottom two saw Everton travel to Robin Park to face Wigan and like Blackburn the night before they took a 3-0 lead into half time.

Shane Duffy got the first two goals with Tom Donegan netting the third just past the half hour. The second half saw four more goals scored, all coming in a thirteen minute spell. Kieran Agard made it 4-0 before Wigan pulled one back with a Tomasz Cywka penalty.

Almost immediately Donegan got his second of the night to take the score to 5-1 before Wigan grabbed the last goal of the night through Jon Routledge.

Leaders Liverpool ensured they increased that lead at the top to six points with a comfortable 4-1 win over Hull at Tranmere. Liverpool dominated to such an extent that it was a surprise that the first goal took 25 minutes when David Amoo turned in a low cross from the left.

It was only one at half time but the home side soon put some perspective on the scoreline with Nathan Eccleston getting their second two minutes into the second half and four minutes later Nikola Saric made it 3-0.

Amoo got his second of the night to make it 4-0 and it was a surprise they didn't add further goals. However, it was Hull who got the last of the night with a Tom Cairney slotted home a penalty in the dying moments of the game.

Burnley should have played Manchester United at Altrincham tonight but that game was called off and will now be played in February.
