Edging closer to the top

The young Clarets stormed to a 3-0 win and it proved to be a good week for us as we returned to winning ways after the defeat at Wrexham the previous week. Suddenly the top three clubs are all dropping points with Carlisle having lost two games in the previous week, although they too won on Saturday.

We dropped our first points of the season against a Blackpool side who are third from bottom in the table, and leaders Wrexham found it just as difficult last Saturday, returning with the same 1-1 scoreline as us.

Carlisle though were 3-1 winners at home to Port Vale and it has left a very interesting top of the table. Wrexham lead with 58 points from 25 games, Carlisle are second with 54 points from 24 games and Burnley are third with 49 points from 20 games.

That's a nine point lead Wrexham have over us but we've got five games in hand. However, the time period we have to play all those games plus the reserve games as well could make it very difficult for us to catch up. Time will tell and I firmly believe we have the best side in this league, and that only the fixture pile up will cost us.

Elsewhere in the league there were wins for Macclesfield, Morecambe, Oldham, Preston, Rochdale and Wigan on Saturday with Rochdale winning again on Monday.
