Down to fifth for reserves

Rob Turner - two goals for the reserves
We lost top spot on Monday night when Preston visited the Racecourse ground to play Wrexham. The home side's first team are bottom of the Football League and their reserves hold the same position in the Pontin's League.

Despite scoring three times they were beaten 5-3. Neil Mellor and Brett Ormerod both scored twice for a very strong and experienced Preston side and Simon Whaley added the fifth. Their lead at the top was only expected to last two days, and although we weren't able to take over the leadership last night went to Chester who beat Carlisle 4-2 at Brunton Park.

With Tranmere going above us along with Morecambe (who beat Accrington) it has left Steve Davis' team in fifth place and Davis was disappointed with last night's defeat. He said: "We've had a good start and you want to keep that going, whatever level you are at, so we are disappointed to lose the game.

"I thought we were beaten by a team that got about us a little bit and the young lads had ninety minutes they can learn from. There were some good performances and we had a few chances, but you need seven, eight or nine to be on top of their game and unfortunately we didn't have that."

This week's results (Wednesday unless otherwise shown):

Blackpool 1 Rochdale 1
Burnley 0 Tranmere 2
Carlisle 2 Chester 4Manchester City 2 Bury 4
Morecambe 2 Accrington 1

It is the Pontin's Cup next week, a competition we have not entered. The next league fixtures will be played in two weeks time as follows:
