Cumbrians back on top

It's all very tight at the top and all of those top three clubs have now lost one game, with Burnley and Carlisle having beaten each other. Bowman(2) and Cook were the Carlisle scorers in their win over us, described as a superb game by their coach Eric Kinder.

They now sit a point ahead of Wrexham with a game in hand, replacing the Welsh side at the top after they'd only drawn with Port Vale. Burnley are a further point behind but have played two games less than Carlisle and three less than Wrexham.

The Youth Alliance League North West title is definitely between these three sides now with Burnley holding a nine point lead over fourth place Port Vale.

Elsewhere, Morecambe pulled off the biggest surprise of the weekend with a 1-0 win at Oldham. It is just their second win of the season against an Oldham side who have faded away after a decent start to the season.

Wigan are another club who have struggled to maintain a decent start and they were beaten at home to Stockport. There were also wins for Macclesfield, Preston and Tranmere.

Burnley are next in action this Wednesday afternoon in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup. That's against Bury and will be played at Radcliffe Borough's ground. Our next league fixture is Saturday at home to Shrewsbury.
