Convincing Gawthorpe win

Last updated : 19 April 2004 By Tony Scholes

We soon got ourselves a double headed start to the game. Firstly Joe Booth headed in a right wing cross and on twenty minutes Alex Taylor got his head onto a Marc Pugh free kick for the second.

It was all Burnley and it was no real surprise when Pugh added a third before half time as he hammered one into the roof of the net from close range.

Things got even better after half time and the youngsters were passing the ball about really well and at times Darlington were hardly able to get a touch on the ball.

Pugh and Taylor both scored again to complete the scoring after the best performance for some time although Darlington were far from the best side we have played all season.

There was chance too for one debutant to shine with Andy Collins coming on for Darrell Avery at half time and impressing throughout the second half.

The result keeps us in 3rd place but it is going to be a much tougher week coming though with a league game against Division 3 league leaders York on Saturday followed by the LFA Youth Cup Final a week today against Oldham whose Under –19 side lead Merit League Division One.

The team was:

Michael Hale, Rob Henry, Ryan Townsend, Neal Trotman Danny Pitham, Marc Pugh (Adam Jones), Darrell Avery (Andy Collins), Joe Booth (Tom Ince), Nicky Platt, Rhys Carpenter, Alex Taylor. Subs not used: Mark Crossley, Cayne Hanley.
