Shay McCartan out with knee ligament injury

McCartan has been away with the Northern Ireland under-21 squad at a training camp but has sustained a knee ligament injury that will rule him out for around eight weeks meaning he will miss the under-21 qualifying tournament games against the Czech Republic, Greece and Moldova in October.

Manager Eddie Howe, who gave Shay a first team debut at Doncaster last season, said: "It's a real shame for Shay. He was away with Northern Ireland for a few days and tweaked his knee. It's a ligament injury but thankfully he has been lucky and won't need an operation, but he will be around eight weeks and it's a blow."

Conlan and Howieson, however, are set for their first competitive games of the season. Conlan has himself been injured and Howieson was given more time away. Both have recently played in development squad games but tomorrow they give Pashley's squad a boost.

With Luke Gallagher back from Republic of Ireland duty and Jason Gilchrist, who scored in the development squad game against Manchester City on Tuesday, included it means four second year scholars are named in the side. Jack Errington is currently sidelined with a medical problem.

The team tomorrow is: Callum Jakovlevs, Charlie Holt, Christian Hill, Luke Gallagher, Alex Whitmore, Luke Conlan, Brad Jackson, Nathan Lowe, Jason Gilchrist, Cameron Howieson, Ntumba Massanka. Subs: Danny Eccles, Jamie Frost, Andreas Bianga, Andrew Nugent, Crawford.

The game kicks off at Morecambe and Lancaster College at 11:00 a.m. The college can be found at LA1 2TY.
