Clarets off to Alty

With the first team squad in Portugal, it means the reserves will be a team made up of the young pros and youth team players. Led by Alex-Ray Harvey and Chris Anderson, two first year professionals it will be a big test against a United side who currently sit one point clear on top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League.

Manchester City and Liverpool, the only two other teams in with a realistic chance of winning the league, are one and two points behind respectively after City's win against Bolton (for whom the manager didn't play) last night.

The last time a Burnley reserve team played away against Manchester United was five seasons ago when they had a team in the then named Pontin's League. On that occasion it was played at Hyde United and we came out with a creditable 1-1 draw with Alex Taylor scoring for the Clarets.

The outstanding player on the night was Manchester United youngster Chris Eagles, then just short of his 19th birthday. He had given them an early lead.

The teams were;

Manchester United: Ricardo, Phil Picken, Jonathan Spector, Gerard Pique, Ben Collett, Floribert Ngalula, Chris Eagles, Markus Neumayr, David Bellion, Giuseppe Rossi, Kieran Richardson. Subs: Steven Hogg, Tom Heaton, Adam Eckersley, Colin Heath, David Poole.

Burnley: Brian Jensen, Joel Pilkington, Neal Trotman, Chris McCann, Paul Scott, Marc Pugh, Amadou Sanokho, Mark Yates (Nicky Platt), Joe Booth, Matt O'Neill, Alex Taylor. Subs not used: Michael Hale, Martin Reilly, Cayne Hanley, Tom Ince.
