Morecambe led the table and were unbeaten, but they came unstuck last night as Tranmere beat them at their own Christie Park ground. Goals from Ryan Fraughan and Craig Curran gave the Wirral side all three points and that opened up the chance for both Burnley and Preston to claim top spot.

As previously reported it was Preston who won last night in the game at Accrington and that means they are now top of the league although they have played more games than any other side in the league.

In the only other game yesterday, played at Fleetwood Town's Highbury, Blackpool fielded an experienced side that was much too good for Chester City. Under the control of former Claret Steve Thompson they won 2-0 with goals from Michael Flynn and Danny Mitchley.

The only other game in our league this week saw Accrington Stanley record an amazing 4-0 win against Manchester City at the Regional Athletics Centre at Eastlands. A Leighton McGivern hat trick, including a penalty, was followed by a fourth goal from John Miles.

Stanley coach Ashley Hoskin told Clarets Mad that the City team played some very neat football but once his side were in front there was only ever going to be one winner.

There are no games next week but the fixtures for the following week are shown below, including our next game away to Chester City.
