Clarets in the mix at the top of the Alliance

Jamie Frost scored the last goal at Accrington

North End's lead at the top was extended when they beat Fleetwood in an away game played at home and Wrexham, who had climbed into second place, were beaten at Oldham. It was a first defeat of the season for Wrexham and it's seen them drop one place to third with Carlisle moving back into second place.

They did so courtesy of a home win against Bury and they now sit ahead of Wrexham on goal difference with the pair of them just one point ahead of Rochdale, Burnley and Walsall. Walsall won at Shrewsbury while we overcame Accrington allowing us to creep up on Rochdale who were without a game.

Wrexham might have suffered their first defeat but down at the other end of the table it was a first win of the season for Morecambe, and it was no close thing as they beat Blackpool 4-0. That win, coupled with ours at Accrington, enabled Morecambe to move up one place ahead of Accrington who are now next to bottom.

Poor Tranmere are now the only team without a win. Another defeat for them at home to Macclesfield has left them with just one point from their first eleven games and a big fight remaining to avoid finishing at the bottom of the league.

This week there are a couple of Youth Alliance Cup games still to be played and at the weekend there are only three league games. Carlisle travel to Wrexham on Friday while two of the teams right behind them play Saturday, Rochdale at Macclesfield and the Clarets at Gawthorpe playing the return game against Accrington.

It's a tall order but we could be second this time next week. That would, besides us winning, require a draw in the Wrexham v Carlisle game and Macclesfield not losing against Rochdale. But we are moving up the table after a difficult start saw us lose three of the first four league games.
