For Wrexham it's been a steady climb up the table and their win against Port Vale on Saturday was enough to take them three points clear at the top of the league. They were already level with Preston but took that three point advantage after Burnley did them a favour in beating North End at Gawthorpe.
Andy has previously reported on our win but it is worth mentioning again. We'd such a young team out against a far more experienced Preston side and they turned in an outstanding performance to win the game. It's always too easy to get carried away but there does look to be some talent coming through.
If it as well done to us, and to Wrexham for going top, then it should also stretch to Tranmere who had picked up just one point from their first eleven games and were destined to spend the entire season in bottom place.
Then they won a game, and followed that up with three draws in the next four. That took them within three points of Accrington and Saturday's win against Oldham has now lifted them above Stanley on goal difference.
Elsewhere there were wins for Bury, Carlisle and Macclesfield with the one remaining game, that between Rochdale and Walsall ended in a draw. Those two are third and fourth respectively and a win for either would have put some real pressure on the top two.
Having played twice at Gawthorpe last week we are at home again this Saturday when Shrewsbury are the visitors. We'll have just one remaining home game after that, against Walsall, with three more still to play away from home at Port Vale, Rochdale and Wrexham.
The weekend results are below along with this week's fixtures, which includes a game today which fell victim to the weather, Burnley's goalscorers and the current league table.
