Clarets go over to the Dark side

It now gets underway four weeks later with a new venue – it is off to Rossendale United’s Dark Lane with a 7 o’clock kick off.

We warmed up on Saturday with a win, or was it a defeat, or was it both? As we reported the youth team had two games on Saturday morning, one away and one at home. Poor information again led to Clarets Mad being unable to bring you reports from either of them – they did not kick off at the times given by the club and that led to us missing out on the games.

The usual youth team went to Oldham but recorded their second successive league defeat, going down 3-0 and that meant the second team with apprentice keeper Mark Crossley in goal with members of the Under-16s and Under-15s had to somehow get a result against Rochdale.

They did, and how, winning 7-0 under the charges of former Clarets Vince Overson and Andy Farrell. It wasn’t the perfect day for Big Vince – his son Jack was sent off close to the end of the game.

It was a fantastic performance though with Under-15 striker Rob Turner getting three whilst his team mate Thomas Bradley and Jay Rodrigues from the Under-16s both scored twice.

The win was much needed and saw the Clarets back into second place in the league on the last day and that means a place in the top Merit League to come. Without that win we would have finished in fourth place and could have missed out.

The teams at the two games were:

At Oldham: Michael Hale, Rob Henry, Neal Trotman, Ryan Townsend, Martin Reilly, Marc Pugh, Joe Booth, Nicky Platt, Tom Ince, Kyle Lafferty, Cayne Hanley.

At home: Mark Crossley, Dale Underwood, Jack Overson, Raphale Evans, Thomas Bradley, Connor Smith, Adam Kay, Ali Akbar, Lewis Craig, Jay Rodrigues, Rob Turner.

Now it is Blackpool and who we have beaten three times this season, twice in the league and once in the Alliance Cup.
