Clarets go down in youth league

We remain next to bottom in the league with seven points, and that leaves us seven points clear of bottom club Accrington Stanley, and a win would have seen us climb within three points of next club Rochdale who earned themselves a 3-3 draw at Preston.

That result, along with ours, enabled Blackpool to climb above their rivals Preston into the third place in the league, and also to move two points closer to the top with Oldham and Wigan, who are fighting it out for top spot, collecting one point each from a 2-2 draw at Wigan on Friday afternoon.

It's Oldham who remain top, on goal difference courtesy of having conceded three goals less than the Premiership club's youth team and in the Group B table, Walsall remain four points clear at the top despite being held to a draw by struggling Macclesfield.

The two teams closest to them before kick off were Chester and Tranmere who drew with each other, leaving Stockport as the only one of the top clubs to collect all three points.

Burnley have a tough game next week, we travel to leaders Oldham, and that's a game that in the last couple of seasons has seen goals galore with both sides winning games. Last season we lost there 4-1 but beat them twice at home, 5-4 in the league and 5-3 in the Lancashire Youth Cup after extra time.

Our next home game is the following week when we entertain Carlisle, our last scheduled home game until after the New Year.

This week's Youth Alliance results:

Accrington 2 Carlisle 3
Blackpool 4 Burnley 2
Preston 3 Rochdale 3
Stockport 3 Port Vale 2
Tranmere 0 Chester 0
Walsall 1 Macclesfield 1
Wigan 2 Oldham 2
Wrexham 0 Shrewsbury 2
