James O'Connor - scored our third at Wrexham
Having beaten Wrexham 3-1 on Monday night there were still three teams who could catch us this week. The first of them Tranmere took a 3-0 battering at Carlisle on Tuesday. Tranmere had started the season with two wins but had no answer to the Cumbrians for whom Neale McDermott netted twice.

Yesterday afternoon it was Preston's turn at Chester, and they thought they had made sure of another win by including the likes of Simon Whaley, Karl Hawley, Brett Ormerod and the sulking Sean St. Ledger in a side littered with first team players. It didn't quite work out for them and goals from Paul Rutherford and Nathan Lowndes ensured Chester collected all three points in a 2-1 win.

That left league new boys Morecambe who had won their first two games of the season. Last night at Radcliffe Borough's ground that 100% start was ended when they could only draw 0-0 against Bury. It ensures they remain in second place, two points behind the Clarets.

There was a first win of the season for Manchester City against Blackpool, in a game played at Highbury (home of Fleetwood Town). Two goals from Ched Evans, a prolific scorer in the City reserve teams, got both goals.

This week's results;

Monday
Wrexham 1 Burnley 3

Tuesday
Carlisle 3 Tranmere 0

Wednesday
Accrington 2 Rochdale 1
Blackpool 0 Manchester City 2
Bury 0 Morecambe 0
Chester 2 Preston 1
