Clarets four points from the top of youth league

Last updated : 20 October 2014 By Tony Scholes

Walsall remain top but having been unbeaten until a week last Saturday, when they lost 3-1 at Oldham, they've lost for a second time with Tranmere beating them 2-0 and, with Bury suffering a shock 4-1 defeat at Wigan, it leaves the top four separated by just one point.

Oldham continued their great run with a 4-0 win at Accrington. They are now second, just a point behind Walsall and above both Oldham and Rochdale, who had no game, on goal difference.

Rochdale now have that game in hand but Oldham still have two games in hand having started the season later than the other clubs. They've won seven out of eight games now and one point from those two games in hand would see them go top.

Poor Morecambe remain pointless at the bottom. They played a west coast game at Fleetwood, themselves having only won once this season, but Fleetwood came out on top to lift them above Carlisle in the table with Morecambe and Accrington, who have two points, now languishing at the bottom.

Our win saw us move ahead of Blackpool into seventh place. The run of five games without a win is now behind us with us having recorded successive wins against Morecambe, Carlisle and Preston. This was the best of the lot. Not only was it away from home, it was also against a team above us. Their lead over us is now goal difference only with both of us on 18 points from our ten games.

We were led to believe that our first goal was scored by Khius Metz but other reports have suggested it could have been Brad Jackson. For now it's recorded as a Metz goal but we'll attempt to get that confirmed over the next few days.

We'd already hit the bar earlier in the game before our goal came when the scorer converted a right wing cross to give us a first half lead.

Brandon Wilson (pictured) added the second after the break who completed a counter attack and the goalscoring was complete when Jamal Crawford fired home a free kick.

Hopefully, taking our current form into Saturday's game at Accrington, we'll be able to make it four wins in four.
