Clarets drop to eight in youth league

There's nothing stopping Blackpool just now. Saturday's win against Bury was their eight victory in the last nine games and has ensured they maintained their six point lead at the top of the table.

They kicked off the day six points ahead of both Rochdale and Walsall, both of whom have two games in hand on Blackpool, but whilst Walsall were also winners there was a surprise defeat for Rochdale.

Walsall's win came against Shrewsbury and keeps them six points behind but Port Vale were the winners against Rochdale, recording a 5-3 win. That could have seen Rochdale drop to fourth in the league but they were spared local rivals Oldham going above them after their home game against Wrexham was called off.

Down at the other end of the table Morecambe were unable to build on their first win of the season a week earlier when they beat Preston. This time they were at home to Fleetwood but suffered a tenth defeat of the season.

In the other two games there were wins for both Carlisle and Tranmere against Wigan and Macclesfield respectively.

Burnley's pre-Christmas programme is over but there will be league fixtures up to and including Saturday 14th December.

Our next game is the FA Youth Cup tie against Manchester United at Turf Moor which kicks off at 7 p.m. on Monday 16th December but our next league game will be at Gawthorpe against Carlisle on the morning of Saturday 11th January 2014.
