Clarets drop four Alliance places

Blackpool have had a couple of miserable years at youth level, but things are definitely looking up for them this season. They crushed bottom club Morecambe on Saturday; that result was expected but they have now moved up into fourth place with only one defeat all season, and along with Morecambe look the most likely to offer the challenge to the top two.

Blackpool are fourth, a point behind their fierce rivals Preston who have played two games more. They remain three points behind Rochdale and a further point behind leaders Walsall who beat Macclesfield and Shrewsbury respectively.

Down at the bottom it really is becoming a struggle for Morecambe this season. The big defeat against Blackpool left them four points adrift. They've won just two points from nine games to date and have conceded 29 goals whilst scoring only six times.

Shrewsbury are the side ahead of them with Wrexham a further two points clear having drawn against Port Vale. The Welsh club are now starting to recover from a poor start to the season.

Wigan and Bury started the day below Burnley on goal difference. They couldn't be separated with identical records and that remains the case after the two sides drew 4-4. The other two to move ahead of us were Tranmere and Fleetwood. Tranmere's win, against an Oldham side who started the day in third place, moved them up to sixth and Fleetwood's victory at Carlisle saw them go a point ahead of us.

Preston, who have played two games more than most clubs, are the ones to miss out this weekend. Burnley are back in action at Gawthorpe against Morecambe and will be hoping for three points to get things back on track after the recent run of disappointing results.
