Clarets bow out of Youth Cup

With Terry Pashley and Andy Farrell back in charge, and the latter joined by several members of Jimmy Mullen's Claret & Blue Army on the touchline - namely David Eyres, John Francis, Jamie Hoyland, Graham Lancashire and John Mullin, it was an inexperienced team that the Burnley coaches were able to name.

It's in the centre of defence where we have the problems. With Jack Errington having to sit out the entire season and Alex Whitmore injured, there was a further blow with Luke Gallagher, who has been playing their this season, ruled out because he's just over a month too old to play in the knock out competitions.

We didn't get off to the best of starts and Rochdale took an early lead and they could have added to that as Burnley struggled to get out of their own half. It came as no surprise when they did get a second but this one was avoidable. We gave away a needless free kick in a dangerous position and the Rochdale player steered it into the bottom corner.

It was a first half they dominated and we did well to come in at half time  with only a two goal deficit.

The second half was closer although again Rochdale could easily have added to their tally, but we did get forward a lot more and the visiting goalkeeper was kept busy with a number of saves.

We twice had the ball in the net but both were ruled out for offside. The first of them was a clear decision but the second was somewhat closer.

In the end we could have no complaints against a physically bigger, stronger and older team than ours.

We lined up: Conor Mitchell, Cameron Dummigan, Charlie Holt, Luke Conlan, Christian Hill, Kevin Ly, Luke Daly, Nathan Lowe, Evan Galvin (Brad Jackson 60), Jason Gilchrist, Lewis Nuttall (Jamie Frost 69). Subs not used: Callum Jakovlevs, Andreas Bianga, Waqas Azam.
