Burnley top of youth league

Last updated : 08 September 2005 By Tony Scholes

Martin Reilly - scored in the youth team's 5-4 win
Two goals each from Kyle Lafferty and Marc Pugh and one from Martin Reilly brought about the first points dropped by Oldham, but the Latics are still leading scorers leading scorers and were able to add another four in the 5-4 encounter at Gawthorpe that leaves them with nineteen goals from just the three games.

We were indebted to bottom of the league Macclesfield who took a point off Tranmere, had Tranmere won that they would have been above us on goal difference. It was a first point of the season for Macc whilst there were first wins for Rochdale and Carlisle and Walsall’s win against Chester saw them go third.

Meanwhile the reserves victory against Wrexham saw the Welsh club lose their top spot. They now sit three points behind the new leaders Blackpool who recorded a 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury with two goals from Matt Blinkhorn.

Burnley travel to Bury this Saturday for their Youth Alliance League game but it will be almost two weeks before the reserves are in action again when they travel to Chester on the 21st of the month.
