Burnley move up three places in the Alliance

Nathan Lowe scored in the Preston win

What looked set to be a difficult game proved to be our biggest win of the season and, following a difficult run of results, has taken us to seven points from the last three games with a total of 12 goals scored.

We are still some way off the top of the league where Blackpool extended their lead to three points with a 2-0 win against Wigan. Second place Walsall could only draw at Port Vale and that allowed Rochdale to move level on points with them having won comfortably at Tranmere.

Oldham, in fifth place, would have joined them had they beaten Shrewsbury who are next to bottom in the league. They could only win a point from a 0-0 draw meaning only two of the top five were able to record victories.

The coastal clash between bottom of the table Morecambe and Fleetwood was ruled out because of a waterlogged pitch and that left just two other games.

Macclesfield moved ahead of Fleetwood and Carlisle with a win at Wrexham; this after Carlisle lost at home against Bury who remain right behind us on goal difference.

We've been virtually next to each other in the table all season and we both now have 18 points although Bury have a game in hand. That suggests a close encounter this Saturday when we meet for the first time this season at Gawthorpe.

Top of the league Blackpool play at Fleetwood. Maybe the players will travel by tram to that one. None of the other top teams are in action with just four games scheduled.
