Steve Davis' team have scored no fewer than ten goals in three games and could so easily have been three points clear at the top. We'd led 3-0 at Tranmere in our previous game before the home side came back to draw with two of their goals coming from the sort of penalties only home sides get.

As the Clarets hit four this week, Tranmere kept on our heels with a 2-0 home win against Accrington. Burnley born Adnan Ahmed scored the first with Charlie Barnett scoring the second. Both our wins ensured we went into the top two places with Manchester City's game at Bury being called off.

Morecambe were one of two teams to secure their first points of the season. They twice led Carlisle at Christie Park but in the end had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw. Henry McStay gave them the lead with a superbly taken free kick but recent signing Richard Keogh (the same Richard Keogh who backed out of a deal at Burnley three years ago) scored the first equaliser for a very strong and experienced Carlisle side.

Aaron Taylor thought he'd won it for Morecambe but Grant Smith scored Carlisle's second and the two most northerly clubs in the league settled for a point each.

In the only other game played Blackpool made something of a recovery in beating Preston 2-0. Daniel Nardiello and Dominic Merella scored the goals to ease past their local rivals, and in doing so picked up their first points of the season. It came just seven days after the two sides had met in the reverse fixture at Bamber Bridge's Irongate.

It was the only game played in the week previous and Merella was again on the mark to give Blackpool a 1-0 lead in that game. However, Preston came storming back to win it 7-1. Joe Anyinsah got himself a hat trick, former Burnley apprentice scored twice and there were further goals from Dominic Collins and Adam Barton.

There are no league fixtures next week, but a full fixture list the following week with the Clarets travelling to Bamber Bridge and a date with Preston.
