Brilliant win for youth team

Last updated : 08 December 2003 By Tony Scholes

The Clarets had slipped to next to bottom in the Youth Alliance League following the 2-1 defeat at Wigan last week whilst today’s opponents Oldham Athletic had climbed to fourth place as they celebrated a 3-0 win against Preston.

But it was all Burnley today and once Rhys Carpenter had given us the lead at Gawthorpe and the young Welsh striker had doubled the lead by half time.

But that was nothing but a foretaste of what was to come after the interval when Rhys first completed his hat trick before we went 5-0 up with superb strikes form distance by the two central midfielders Darrell Avery and Joe Booth.

Alex Taylor, the scorer of the winner on Wednesday evening completed the scoring to give the Clarets a 6-0 win.

We hope to have more from the game later along with the team news.
