Booth wins it for youngsters

Joey Jones - in charge of the Wrexham team
The game started brightly but the pattern was soon set with the Clarets on top and it was no surprise when we took the lead with just twenty minutes on the clock.

It came following a cross from the left that was only half cleared by the Wrexham defence and it fell to Joe Booth who he lashed it in from about 15 yards.

Apart from one save from Michael Hale, with his legs, it was all Burnley during the first forty-five minutes but there were no further goals and we had to settle for 1-0 at half time.

Nothing changed in the second half either and we really should have added to that early goal. Marc Pugh hit the post and Alex Taylor missed a couple of opportunities but the second goal just wouldn’t come with Wrexham again only causing us one real problem with a one-on-one that Hale dealt with expertly as he dived at the forward’s feet to take the ball from him.

It might well have only been a narrow victory but it was a well deserved result that could have been a lot more than 1-0 with good performances all over the pitch. Again skipper Ryan Townsend and Neal Trotman were in outstanding form at the back but it was a good midfield performance with midfield dominating and the forward play excellent but just missing out on the goals.

So another good win in front of a partisan crowd who were quick to question the officials at every opportunity to put them under pressure – that’s difficult to believe with Joey Jones in charge of the Wrexham team !!!!

It’s Darlington this weekend and we are now less than two weeks from the Lancashire FA Youth Cup Final against Oldham.

The team was: Michael Hale, Gary Carter, Ryan Townsend, Neal Trotman, Danny Pitham, Darrell Avery, Joe Booth, Paul Scott, Marc Pugh, Rhys Carpenter (Nicky Platt), Alex Taylor. Subs not used: Adam Jones, Rob Henry.
