The Seasiders made a sensational start to the 2010/11 season in the league. They won their first nine games that season but then collapsed and picked up only one point in the remaining fifteen games.
They ended the next season in bottom place and last season were fifth from bottom. On Saturday they beat local rivals Preston 2-1. They've won five and drawn one of their last six games and it was enough to take them to the top of the league.
It might not have been, but they benefited from the game of the day between Rochdale and Walsall suffering from the weather.
There were just three other games played, including our 2-2 draw at Carlisle that has left us in the ninth position we held before the weekend. The draw did take us above Bury, who were without a game, on goal difference, but Wigan moved a point clear of us virtue of their win against Fleetwood.
The one remaining game saw Accrington win at bottom club Morecambe. It's proving to be a difficult season for the Shrimps. They've scored less goals than any other team, have conceded the most and are four points adrift at the bottom with only two points.
We are back in action this Saturday with a home game against Preston while the games to look for will be Blackpool's home game against Wigan and Walsall's trip to Port Vale. It is only the Saddlers who could knock Blackpool off top spot this week.
