Big win for Rochdale as Alliance kicks off

Rochdale ended last season in third place just ahead of Walsall who were also off to a winning start with a 2-0 win against Bury.

However, last season's champions and runners up were both beaten. Wrexham won the league, finishing two points ahead of Preston. They lost 1-0 at Carlisle with Preston beaten at home 2-1 by Oldham.

In the other games played there were wins for Blackpool, Macclesfield and Port Vale.

Burnley will start their Youth Alliance campaign this coming Saturday with a trip to Oldham. Kick off there will be 11 a.m.
