Big Turf Moor night for the youth team

Last updated : 20 January 2015 By Tony Scholes

The tie brings back memories of the semi-final in 1971 when it took three games to decide the tie with Cardiff eventually going through after a Turf Moor replay.

Tonight will be an opportunity for some of our young players to experience playing on the Turf for the first time, and under the floodlights, something coach Andy Farrell particularly enjoyed.

"You can't beat a cup fixture at Turf Moor on a Tuesday night under the lights," Farrell said. "I have played many over the years and I prefer it than a normal Saturday game in all honesty.

"There was cold air and dampness on the grass and I always seemed more up for it, and hopefully, if we get a good crowd for the boys, they can hopefully give them a good show and with a bit of luck progress to the next round."

It's going to be a tough game, and Farrell added: "We have got a big challenge ahead because we are playing a team that is, with respect, better than the teams we normally play.

"We have seen a few DVDs of Cardiff, including their win against Charlton in the previous round and we know they have pace with some good players who like to play good football. On top of that they have a solid defence, so we know we are in for a challenge, but we are ready for them."

The Cardiff team is coached by Matthew Bloxham and Jarred Harvey, and Bloxham said: "We've done our research on Burnley, and are expecting a tough challenge against a well coached side. We've analysed and discussed how we believe they will attempt to hurt us and looked at ways to counteract this.

"It's a great experience for our players to get the opportunity of playing at a great venue like Turf Moor. We're expecting a top quality playing surface, which will allow us to play our usual passing game while their families and friends watch on.

"As a collective we feel well prepared, and hopefully it will be enough to see us through to the fifth round."

The winners will travel to Nottingham Forest in the fifth round after Forest won 3-0 at West Brom last Thursday.

There's been no team news from Burnley but the team which beat Wimbledon 2-1, with goals from Ntumba Massanka and Brad Jackson, was: Tony Aghayere, Hamam El-Fitouri, Shaun Hobson, Waqas Azam, Andy Nugent, Jamie Frost, Brandon Wilson, Andreas Bianga, Christian Hill, Brad Jackson, Ntumba Massanka. Subs: Connor King, Billy Grogan, Jamal Crawford, Josh Dolling, Khius Metz.

Kick off tonight is 7 p.m. and admission to the Bob Lord Stand is £4 adults, £1 concessions.
