Away tie for youths in cup

Last updated : 15 March 2006 By Tony Scholes
It will be another two weeks before we know who our opponents are with the quarter-final between Wigan and Bury scheduled for Monday 27th March. The other semi is between Blackpool and Preston.

Meanwhile we are still in second place in the Youth Alliance League despite the defeat at Carlisle over the weekend. We are now above Preston by just one point and we no longer have any games in hand.

Preston could have gone above us but there home game against Macclesfield was one of three called off over the weekend, leaders Oldham also saw their game at Chester fall foul of the weather.

Bury remain at the bottom of the league but two successive wins have seen them come within three points of Wrexham who also won on Saturday.

We are next in action when we travel to Chester this Saturday and hopefully will be able to return with a similar result as last time, a 1-0 win in the Youth Alliance Cup in January. That was back in January, just five days before the FA Youth Cup tie against Liverpool.

The weekend results were:

Burnley 1 Carlisle 2 (played at Penrith)
Bury 2 Blackpool 0
Chester v Oldham – Postponed
Preston v Macclesfield – Postponed
Rochdale 1 Port Vale 2
Stockport 2 Shrewsbury 2
Walsall 0 Wrexham 2
Wigan v Tranmere – Postponed

This week’s fixtures:
