We remain in fifth place, but we have pulled away from teams directly below us with Preston and Tranmere drawing their game and Oldham, just below them, losing for a fourth consecutive time.
We are within two points of the top though. Rochdale started the day in first place but had to sit and watch as both Wigan, the new leaders, and Walsall, beat Accrington and Wrexham to go a point clear of them.
And Bury's comfortable win against Oldham has taken them level on points with 'Dale but they remain behind on goal difference. Rochdale, however, do have two games in hand on all three of those clubs so are likely to regain top place when those games are played, the first of which comes this Wednesday when they face Blackpool at home.
We've one game in hand on those three clubs and we would be sitting top now had the Port Vale game been played a week last Saturday and we'd won it.
In the only other game played over the weekend, Port Vale did get three points themselves with a narrow 1-0 win against bottom club Morecambe. It does look as though they and Accrington, with one point each, are destined to finish in those bottom two places, as they did a couple of years ago.
Some of those top teams will start to split as they play each other and that will happen this Saturday when we face Bury at home.
