Whilst Burnley were beating Wigan 2-1 at Gawthorpe there was no let up from the two teams abve us who both recorded 1-0 wins. Wrexham won at Bury whilst second place Carlisle were winners at home against Chester.

That leaves us still five points behind Carlisle with three games in hand and eight points behind leaders Wrexham with five games in hand.

Preston and Tranmere were the biggest winners on Saturday, both winning by three goals. Preston defeated Shrewsbury at home 4-1 whilst bottom club Accrington had no answer to Tranmere with the Wirral club going home with a 3-0 victory. There were also wins for Macclesfield, Port Vale, Stockport and Walsall.

Carlisle will play one of their outstanding games during the week, they visit Preston on Wednesday, but the big clash of the weekend sees the young Burnley side travel to North Wales for a first meeting with leaders Wrexham.

There's no doubt that a win would give us a real boost particularly given the number of games we've still got to play this season.
