Another away tie for youngsters

Last season we benefited from five home draws out of six as we reached the final but this time round it is now three successive away ties following today’s draw for the quarter-finals of the Northern section.

Looking at Saturday’s games, Oldham were back amongst the goals again having had a quieter time recently. They bagged no fewer than seven as they saw off Hartlepool at home whilst second in our league Preston scraped through with a 1-0 win at Doncaster.

There was no such good news for Wigan though, they were surprisingly beaten by Bradford City whilst both Rochdale and Stockport hit four.

Back to the Clarets and we opened the season with a home game against Chester, a game where the 4-3 scoreline hardly tells the story of the game. With little time left the Clarets led 4-0 and were coasting following two goals each from Rob Turner and Marc Pugh. Then we seemed to lose our way after making substitutions and were hanging on.

This tie means the league game against Blackpool scheduled for that day will now be played at a later date.

The cup results from Saturday were,

Boston 1 Burnley 2

Doncaster 0 Preston 1

Oldham 7 Hartlepool 1

Rochdale 4 Darlington 1

Shrewsbury 2 Chester 3

Tranmere 1 Hull 0

Wigan 1 Bradford City 3

Wrexham 1 Stockport 4

The draw for the quarter finals:

Stockport v Rochdale

Chester v Burnley

Preston v Bradford city

Tranmere v Oldham
