And another draw

Alex Taylor - scored the goal
Last week’s draw against Stockport could so easily have been the first win of the season but this surely should have been with the visitors simply unable to get into the game for long periods.

We were able to get at them down either flank and Marc Pugh and Matt O’Neill got in lots of crosses, we won countless corners, but during a first half of almost one way traffic we just couldn’t score.

I suppose we have to give some credit to the Macc defence who at times were being given the runaround but they worked tirelessly and kept shots out with some last ditch tackles and blocks.

We missed some chances, the keeper made some good saves whilst at the other end it was almost a restful night for Mark Crossley in the Burnley goal.

The whole first half was summed up in the last couple of minutes. Firstly a shot from Pugh went over and in the very last attack there was an enormous scramble with no less than three shots blocked on the line.

Macclesfield must have wondered just how they went in level but the Clarets were on top in all areas of the pitch with coach Mark Yates running the show in the midfield.

Nothing changed after the interval other than that all the action in the first half had been at the Cricket Field End and now it was down at the Jimmy Mac End.

There were more shots blocked and more chances missed but then finally just before the hour we went in front and what a good goal it was.

Pugh was played in down the right hand side and he got to the line and crossed low for Alex Taylor coming in at the near post to hit home. In front at last and surely on the way to our first win of the season – unfortunately not.

It was just a matter of a few minutes and we were caught sleeping as a ball was played down our right hand side allowing them to break clear. A neat lay back from the line was slotted in giving Crossley no chance and it was 1-1.

We made a couple of substitutions, carried on going forward but the nearest we came to a second goal was when Neal Trotman rose high to head against the bar.

Eventually the final whistle blew and yet again we had to settle for a point – but this one really should have been won.
