Amadou goal not enough

Amadou Sanokho - scored the Burnley goal
A late Shrewsbury equaliser means we remain below them and only a defeat for Blackpool would have seen us leave that bottom spot. Blackpool’s game though was postponed and that means we stay bottom on goal difference.

In the first half at Shrewsbury it was something of a stalemate with neither side really creating a clear cut chance and it was no surprise to see the teams go in at the interval with the score at 0-0.

However, the Clarets stepped it up in the second half and almost took the lead in the first attack as Marc Pugh got down the right. His cross was collected by Joe Hart but five minutes into the half the keeper was helpless as we went in front.

Again it was Pugh getting down the right and this time his cross was met by Amadou Sanokho and his shot took a massive deflection off home defender John Ridler giving the keeper no chance as it sailed into the top corner.

Burnley pressed for a second and Hart saved well from Pugh who cut into the box to shoot but the game then settled into a similar pattern to the first.

It looked as though the victory had been secured but Shrewsbury won a corner in the last minute after a free kick deflected off the wall. The flag kick was cleared only to Danny Bragoli who hammered in an equaliser past Michael Hale to earn the home side a point.

We are next in action in two weeks time with a trip to the half a ground, Bloomfield Road at Blackpool.
