Alliance leaders take a hammering

Wes Fletcher - scored his thirteenth goal of the season for the youth team
Wigan winning is probably not such a shock, they are both in the upper reaches in the table and both have now lost just four times all season, a record only bettered by Walsall.

It was always going to be a battle of the best at the other end of the pitch with Blackpool having scored more goals than any other team this season and Wigan having the tightest defence by some distance. It was the Latics that won that battle and then gave the Blackpool defence a roasting.

Walsall, beaten only three times, were 2-1 winners over Accrington . They are currently third in the table with Wigan fourth. The weekend also saw home wins for Stockport and Tranmere whilst our win at Wrexham was the only away win.

Meanwhile bottom club Shrewsbury earned themselves a creditable point with a draw against free scoring Oldham whilst the remaining match between Chester and Bury ended in a goalless draw. The Morecambe v Carlisle game fell victim to the weather.

We needed our win to retain eleventh place in the league, but with games in hand on most clubs we should be able to climb the table between now and the end of the season.
