Alliance Affairs - Stockport must have missed the rain

Last updated : 11 November 2002 By Peter Heywood

Somehow the Hatters’ Manor Park training ground escaped the deluge, and Bury took advantage of the situation to move up to third place with a 3-2 win. Stockport fought back to equalise twice, but a goal in the fifth minute of added time from Colin Kazim-Richards, his second of the game, gave the Shakers the points.

The backlog of matches is now reaching alarming proportions. By now, each team should have played nine games which represents the halfway stage in the season. In fact thirteen games have already been called off, the equivalent of nearly three weeks’ fixtures. When these games will be made up is anyone’s guess, but with pitches such as Blackpool’s Squire’s Gate resembling “a boating pool” the likelihood is that there will be more postponements to come.

This also begs the question, “How on earth do the first teams manage to train?”

This coming Saturday we are supposed to be at home to Rochdale. If the game goes ahead it will be our first youth team home game since the 2-2 draw with Blackpool on October 5th. It will also give Terry Pashley’s squad the opportunity to avenge that miserable 2-0 defeat at Dale, easily their poorest performance so far. The game kicks off at 11am, so if you’re not going to Rotherham get down to Gawthorpe to cheer on the lads.
