Accrington are big winners in only Alliance game

Preston are well and truly slipping in the league. Having been right up there threatening the top of the league they have now lost five of their last six games and that's seen them drop to 10th in the table a massive 14 points behind the leaders.

The middle of the league is tight. Bury are currently fifth with 21 points with just two points more than Wigan who are 12th. Burnley and Saturday's winners Accrington, along with Preston and Wigan are all on 19 points, although us and Accrington have played one game less.

Some of the North West clubs were involved in the Youth Alliance Cup. Eight of them were paired together with Blackpool, Morecambe, Port Vale and Rochdale securing wins against Macclesfield, Morecambe, Wrexham and Tranmere.

Two others, Oldham and Wigan, faced North East league opposition but both went out. Oldham suffered a 2-1 defeat at Hull whilst Wigan were beaten 5-0 by Lincoln.

This week sees seven games in the league. We are currently 8th in the table but neither Accrington nor Preston have a game which means only Wigan can go above us. They travel to Bury.

Next Monday will see our youth team in action at Turf Moor when we face Manchester United in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup.
