A cold night at Accrington

Adam Kay - scored the first goal
Burnley, as expected, named a young side with nine apprentices, young pro Jay Rodriguez and Garreth O'Connor in the starting line up. City as ever fielded a young side with a man mountain at the heart of their defence.

We started very well and gave the visiting keeper a few difficult moments early in the game, some of which were of his own making, and it was no more than we deserved when we went in front with a crisp strike from Adam Kay from just outside the box that nestled into the bottom corner to the keeper's right.

Progress only seem to be halted by a somewhat problematic referee who the home fans insisted on calling Mason. He was getting a number of things wrong, often aided by the cajoling of City coach Paul Power, and at one point came close to yellow carding Rodriguez after he'd been fouled.

Alex McDonald and Wes Fletcher both went close to doubling the lead as the young Clarets continued to play some neat football whilst there were few scares at the other end.

Jay was substituted at half time. He'd taken a knock earlier in the game that initially looked to be something and nothing, but he didn't return after the break and was replaced by James Craggs.

We started brightly again but then City came into the game and equalised with a smart strike from the right hand side of the box. They followed that up with a second and then added a third with a good finish.

But credit to Burnley, we came back into the game and pulled a goal back through Craggs after a good break down the left and were unfortunate on a couple of occasions not to get ourselves an equalisers. The other Mason finally called time and City took the points with a 3-2 win.

On a final note, if you are going there on a cold night take your own hot drinks. The dishwater served up at 50p per cup is not to be recommended.

Burnley lined up: Jonathan Sergeant, Matt Lomas, Dean Stott, Chris Lynch, Tom Bradley, Alex McDonald, Adam Kay, Garreth O'Connor, Alex-Ray Harvey, Jay Rodriguez (James Craggs), Wes Fletcher (Chris Anderson). Subs not used: Dean MacDonald, Lewis Craig, Liam Newman.
