Young side for first reserve team game

Such is the limited size of the squad now that tonight's team includes two first year scholars and only the youngest of the professionals, those that were amazingly left off the team picture.

A look at the team makes it somewhat difficult to decide the formation with four central defenders and not a single forward in the starting eleven. This would suggest that Earl Davis, who will probably captain the side, could be forced into the unfamiliar position up front again.

It will be a first opportunity for reserve team supporters to see Danny Pitham and Gary Carter in action. The two first year scholars from Coventry and London respectively have already impressed in pre-season games. Added to that is West Australian Ryan Townsend, another defender, who makes the subs bench.

There is some great potential in the squad but the lack of any sort of experience does highlight the financial problems at Turf Moor right now.

The team that plays tonight is; James Salisbury, Andrew Leeson, Liam Eves, Danny Pitham, Gary Carter, Joel Pilkington, Mark Rasmussen, Andrew Waine, Earl Davis, Matthew O'Neill, Paul Scott. Subs: Richard Chaplow, Sean Blakey, Steven Richardson, Ryan Townsend.

There had been suggestions that we could be fielding a trialist in Argentinian Elias Bazzi from Boca Juniors. Bazza is a 21 year-old left-back or defensive midfielder and in February two years ago had a trial with Chelsea with an £11 million deal discussed. He has since suffered with injury.

With the team named and no sign of Bazza this could suggest the speculation was wide of the mark or that international clearance has not been received.

Huddersfield Town include the likes of Jon Dyson and Simon Baldry in their side and also field Kevin Gallagher who is hoping to win a contract at the McAlpine Stadium.

They will line up: Phil Senior, Adam Fowler, Jon Dyson, Chris Brown, Anthony Lloyd, Simon Baldry, Paul Scott, Jonathan Worthington, Chris Senior, Jonathan Stead, Kevin Gallagher. Subs: Nat Brown, Jeffery, Doni Clarke, Paul Macari, Ben Austin.
