Wristbands in the Dominican Republic

Last updated : 31 August 2005 By Tony Scholes

Some of those wristbands found themselves in another part of the world recently, on the wrists of children in a poor area of the Dominican Republic. It was all the idea of Burnley fan and season ticket holder Craig Lancaster who, knowing how poor the area was and how keen the children were on wristbands, asked Burnley FC if they would donate some for him to take.

The response from the club was almost immediate and when Craig packed for his holiday there were 100 of them went into the case and he was able to hand them out in the poorest of areas in Puerta Plata.

“The kids absolutely loved them,” Craig said. “”We just couldn’t get enough of them. We took 100 but could easily have got rid of more.”

We have more photographs of the children with their wristbands and they can be found in our Clarets Gallery – just check out Gallery Five and pictures 230-234.

And well done to both Craig and to Burnley Football Club.
