Worthington Cup Draw scheduled

This time though it has returned to the late July date that has been more commonly used and it has just been revealed that the draw will take place tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock.

This year there has been added confusion because Ipswich Town could be playing in the UEFA Cup and so they will not be included in the 1st Round. This has made it necessary for a Preliminary Round to be introduced but the Clarets will not be involved in that. There will be just one match in this round and will be between the club that finished next to bottom in the League last year Bristol Rovers and newcomers Boston United.

The 1st Round draw will include the winners of that game alongside the rest of the 72 Football League clubs with the exception of Ipswich Town. It will be either the 2nd or 3rd round before they enter dependent on their progress in Europe.

The 1st Round matches will be later than normal and are scheduled to take place in week commencing 9th September and this will mean the Clarets will have played six league games prior to this.

There will be no replays in any of the round with extra time followed by penalties to decide winners when required. This also applies in the 2nd legs of the semi-finals.
