Wolves to throw in Potter

After a cash offer was turned down by the Clarets board he upped his offer by adding Republic of Ireland international Stephen Elliott to the equation. Reports valued him at £1.5 to add to the £2.25 cash on offer.

Still without success McCarthy is now reported to be throwing in former Liverpool midfielder Darren Potter to add to the previous bid, so that's £2.25 million plus two players he doesn't want.

Potter started his career with hometown club Liverpool but failed to make the breakthrough at Anfield. He played in a few cup ties, including their 1-0 defeat to Burnley in 2005, but made only two substitute appearances in the Premiership at Charlton and Crystal Palace in the 2004/05 season.

He enjoyed a loan with Southampton towards the end of the 2005/06 season and looked all set to rejoin the Saints until Wolves stepped in and took him to Molineux in the summer of 2006 on a half season loan. In January 2007 McCarthy paid £250,000 to make the move a permanent one.

Potter has played 56 Championship games for Wolves over the past two seasons, with all but ten of them starts. However, he started just eleven league games last season and is now considered surplus to requirements at Wolves.

Yes, McCarthy does look keen to land Lafferty, and if he is then maybe he should be testing our board with a cash offer and not with players he's clearly deemed not good enough.
